"Once upon a time, there was a person named Noa. Noa had a pond in her garden, she always compared it to her neighbors' ponds.
One day, Noa, decided to fix her pond. So, she got down to work, and hired a professional to help her achieve the beauty she longed for in her pond.
The first day was hard work, Noa was frightened to see the amount of dirt and mud that was coming out of the bottom of the pond, it was making the garden dirty when she pulled it out. Now it was dirtier than before! Noa couldn't get over her astonishment, and wondered if it wouldn't have been better if the 'dirt' was still hidden at the bottom of the pond.
On the second day, they had already removed all the mud from the pond. Their garden looked like a dunghill! What would the neighbor think if he realized how much dirt he had accumulated? Noa couldn't comprehend that all that 'muck' was his. 'I wish I hadn't started this process' she thought. At least the dirt was not visible before. Now her garden was showing much worse.
On the third day, Noa went out into the garden expecting the worst. Suddenly, she saw that the water in the pond looked clear and transparent. You could see the bottom, which had been hidden under the dirt, it was beautiful. The sun's rays were shining through the pond water, making it look as if it had a light of its own. This day he dedicated to contemplate it alone.
Day after day, they went over the mountains of dirt and sorted through the filth and threw away small amounts.
On the sixth day, Noa could see the first sign of life in her pond: the first water lily. They had finished cleaning her pond. It and her garden looked beautiful. Suddenly she realized that she no longer cared if her neighbor's pond was more beautiful than hers. Noa could feel that, thanks to the accompaniment of the pond cleaning professional, she didn't need to have the prettiest pond in the neighborhood. THE WAY IT IS, IT'S PERFECT."
This fable is an allegory of what many patients experience during a psychotherapeutic support.
At the beginning, there is a period of 'realization' of the dirt that we have accumulated, for a long time, at the bottom of our pond. That is, we become aware of those parts of ourselves that we denied or kept hidden, our Shadows.
Sometimes, when we begin to see so much dirt, it seems like a very dark period. This fable helps us to understand that, during a deep therapeutic process, sometimes we may feel a bit confused, especially at the beginning. But with time, and therapeutic progress, in the end the Light always shows up sooner or later.
My proposal is the following:
Normalize these contradictory feelings, because, as Carl Jung said, to be free it is necessary to open the consciousness. That is to say, get our garden a little dirty before we start to see the first shoots of life in our pond.
